Linum Consult’s client is an industry leader in specialised civil engineering. They are looking for a Technical Director to oversee their special projects department, covering pre-construction, complex temporary works, and non-standard repair works with reinforced concrete. This role will be based in Birmingham.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties of the Technical Director will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Coordinating and delivering the engineering works, ensuring quality, budget, and schedule targets are met
- Managing the permanent and temporary works designs
- Reviewing the operational methods and managing any changes in design
- Ensuring that all engineering works comply with the project and local regulations
- Being the reference point for all technical matters for the client and project team members
- Attending progress meetings as required, technical meetings, and following up on all actions
- Managing the main subcontractors in terms of design programme and design deliverables
- Liaising and coordinating with internal audits
- Obtaining design approvals from external consultants
- Managing the technical project team in terms of programme resources and budget
- Reviewing and approving all technical documents
- Managing all technical queries
- Ensuring that Safety in Design is incorporated within the technical documentation
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree qualification in Civil Engineering, with a chartership to a professional institution such as IStructE or master’s degree
- At least 8 years’ experience, with 5 years in a technical design management role for major civils/concrete projects, specifically: excellent knowledge of reinforced concrete
- Experience of highly technical temporary design solutions, and familiarity with EuroCodes
- Strong management, organisational, and computer skills
- Knowledge of BIM and Digital Engineering would be advantageous
- Fluent in English, with the right to live and work in the UK
