Linum Consult’s client is a specialist in civil and structural engineering. They are looking for a Principal Structural Engineer with experience in Temporary Works Design to join their team on a variety of bridge projects in Australia. This role will be based out of their Sydney office.


The duties of the Principal Structural Temporary Works Design Engineer will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Leading and expanding a small design team, including mentoring some junior engineers
  • Carrying out specialised temporary works design, from concept through to construction whilst considering the impact on permanent works
  • Providing design deliverables such as design briefs, return briefs, reports, calculations, design-driven construction sequence statements
  • Working collaboratively with the design team to conceptualise structural solutions, embracing agreed concept, and further developing structural designs & documentation to the required level of completion.
  • Coordinating with the design team and transferring information clearly to the drafter/detailer
  • Assisting with technical input and estimates to assist with tenders and proposals
  • Ensuring the timely flow of information, attention to detail, and control of documentation


  • Minimum of a Degree qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering, and ideally registered as a Chartered Engineer (Structural)
  • At least 8-10 years’ experience in temporary works design and complex structural engineering, such as complex bridge projects, complex methodologies, etc.
  • Experience of working onsite with a practical attitude to solving construction related problems
  • Advanced abilities in structural steel and concrete design. Good understanding of structural systems and load path based on first principles
  • Knowledge of midas Civil, SPACE GASS, Strand7, and/or Microstran software
  • Experience of international codes of practice (AASHTO, Eurocodes, Australian Standards, etc.)
  • Fluent in English
  • Ideally already based in Australia, however our client will sponsor a visa for the right candidate
