Linum Consult’s client is a major international company works within the energy sector. They are currently in the process of expanding in Brazil and are seeking a General Counsel to be based in their Sao Paulo office.


  • Managing and overseeing all legal activities of the company’s Latin American division, and ensuring they are conducted in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations
  • Supervising and providing advice on all legal issues associated with the operation, business, and affairs of the company
  • Encouraging a culture of compliance and integrity within the company. Contributing to the implementation, development, and improvement of policies and procedures, and delivering training to staff
  • Identifying and managing legal issues as they may arise and providing related legal advice. Providing dispute resolution advice whether arising under contracts or otherwise and monitoring dispute proceedings and litigation
  • Monitoring trends and developments in laws, regulations, and practices which are pertinent to the business of the company
  • Supporting the Business Development, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Finance functions as and when needed, to provide legal advice with regards to business development opportunities, investment, and procurement activities locally and internationally
  • Identifying and assessing any current or potential legal liabilities and mitigating risks concerning the business development opportunities in the company
  • Drafting and/or negotiating contracts and agreements, ensuring quality and consistency in risk allocation
  • Representing the company in all dispute/litigation cases with external parties in front of the judicial authorities


  • Degree qualification in Law, with admission to practice in at least one Latin American Jurisdiction (preferably Brazil)
  • At least 7-10 years’ Legal Counsel experience, with 4-5 years in a private practice within the energy/power/utilities industry
  • Excellent contract drafting skills
  • Significant experience in at least one of the following legal fields: corporate and M&A law, banking law, or construction law
  • Fluent in English and Portuguese, with any Spanish language skills preferable
